Sales Training Part 2
I recommend you get some good self-help and motivational books, and you should spend an hour a day inside them! Just as you spend time daily...eating...or bathing...you need to spend some time daily, filling your head with positive thoughts about becoming more successful!
When you are talking to a married couple, or even a man and a woman who are in front of you, look into the eyes of the woman about 75% of the time, and glance over to the man about 25%, and be aware that women are usually the ones to make the ultimate decision. Never be disrespectful, of course, and in some cases, the man will make you aware that he is the one that you need to be talking to, and then you can just shift your focus.
When selling anything, always try to inform and even educate your prospects about the features and benefits of what you're selling. Don't immediately drop your price. Every sales job has the ability to drop price a bit, if you really have to, but it will usually affect your commissions...I never drop the price! If you can't make the sale, then you need to sharpen your selling skills!
I was once speaking to a man and a woman and the woman suddenly asked me, "How many times do I have to say no?" I replied, "I am sorry Ma'am, my boss requires we hear the word "no" ten times before we give up." She then asked, "How many times did I day it?" "Only three." I replied. Then she smiled and looked at me and said, "No, no, - No, no, - No, no, no." Then I said "Thanks folks and have a great day."
Another important thing to remember, is not to recite something you have said to other customers before, a thousand times, in such a speedy manner that the person in front of you (hearing it for the first time) cannot understand or comprehend what you're saying. Notice when you go to a drive through window at a fast food restaurant or call to order a pizza...they say their little greeting so fast, you have no idea what they're saying! There was something about "today's special" but who can be sure? Ninety-nine people out of a hundred will NOT ask them to repeat whatever they rambled off.
Here is another tidbit about selling..."Never talk past the close!" When the customer throws up his hands and says "Sounds good!" or he smiles and extends his hand to shake yours...YOU, my friend, have a deal! Don't keep talking and trying to sell, he is already sold! Start to write it up! If you were in the middle of a pitch that also includes giving instructions that they need, you can give those pointers after the sale is completed!
When you are selling something, as in a home-based business, and you are just starting out...treat it like a business, and call it "My Business" when mentioning it to friends, acquaintances, et cetera. When someone smugly asks if you are making money at it, you can tell them that you are. Then they will want to know if you are making "a lot" of money, and you can say, "Well, I am not c-u-r-r-e-n-t-l-y making enough to live on, YET...but I will eventually!"
Think positive and be positive, and believe that you can do it and you will do it, and do not give up! I use, as an example...Avon, a great company, with great products, and great compensation! Now, I believe their "kit" to get started costs about ten bucks, and it is basically a few catalogs and some literature to read to get started and maybe a couple of samples.
There are some gals who buy the kit, then give one catalog to grandma, and one catalog to the lady next door, and because neither of them immediately place an order...the gal gets discouraged and quits! Big Mistake!
On the other side of the coin, is the woman who buys the kit, and enthusiastically loans all of the catalogs out to people, (keeping one with her at all times to show people, face-to-face) and she excitingly tells each person that she needs the book back, tomorrow, and hopefully with an order...and in the first week she sells like $500 worth of products!
Then when she places her first order, and sees that she made maybe $200 in commissions, she decides to put that money back into her business, and she buys 100 more catalogs, and some samples, and a few full sized products that might have been on sale, either to use as give-away gifts to gals as an incentive to order $50 or more. She will also have some inventory to sell, while showing the catalogs!
So, in the above scenario, there are two women who bought the same $10 kit...one of them quit before she even got started, and the other is on her way to really turning it into a full-time business and livelihood! YOU can do the same, and you can do it with any company that you desire to work with!
Also, you MUST avoid listening to negativity! Do Not let someone you know discourage you, just because they might think they couldn't do it, or that it won't work...stay away from them, for a while, and go build your business!
You have to stay focused and motivated and keep yourself "pumped-up!"
It might be a great idea to also read some books to get you pumped up and psyched up to do a good job with your "new business!" I highly recommend The Greatest Salesman In The World by Og Mandino, as well as anything else written by this brilliant, self-help author! You should also try Zig Ziglar's Secrets Of Closing The Sale.
You can go to the bookstore or library and check out the section where they have books about salesmanship...and every single day, you should spend at least a half an hour reading these types of books! If you do not have the time, turn off the blasted television!
When you have a job involving sales, it is a great idea to get to work a little early, and get organized, get your thoughts together, and get prepared for the day ahead. The person who is running late, and is speeding in their car, to beat the clock...will get there stressed before the work day even begins, and they might not have a chance to prepare appropriately for the day.
If you own a business of your own, that is sales driven, or you are working a business from home, you need to work even more than you would at a 40 hour a week job, but it should be fun for you to have your own business, and it shouldn't "feel like" work! There are many successful people out there who will tell you that they put in long hours to build their business and to become successful, especially in the beginning!
For those who sell products, whether for your company, or for an MLM opportunity, or even if you buy and sell items that you bought at wholesale! (I have been buying wholesale items and peddling them at retail for CASH, for many years!) You should always carry some business cards, catalogs, fliers, samples, or even some product (ready to sell) with you at all times!
You might be at the gas station, filling up your car, and you might get talking to the person at the very next position, and then the conversation turns to your business. Suddenly you realize that you don't have a catalog or brochure to give them...big mistake!
You can actually get yourself a huge website, ready to go within five minutes, from a team of two awesome companies...one hosts the website for you and lets you select from about 18 different templates, and their admin area that you are given is extremely easy to use! The other company is a wholesaler in California, and they have about 10,000 cool gift items that are all listed on YOUR website right from the start! YOU decide the pricing, you can eliminate items or categories if you want, and you can add pages of other products...it is all up to YOU! If this is of interest to you, please click here to learn more!
If you just want to buy wholesale but in small quantities, then I can help you...anything you see on my website that is of interest to you...just send me an e-mail of inquiry and let me know what you want and how many of each and I will get you a price!
